Not sure what to bring to GNW? Here are some ideas on what you may wish to bring for GNW and is in no way a complete list.

Shelter, Bedding and Furnishing

Note – bedding, including blankets and pillows, are included when booking bunks.

  • Tent
  • White markers (e.g. strips of fabric) for guy ropes
  • Bed/mattress (pump & patch kit)
  • Bedding
  • Banners, tapestries and cloth covers
  • Chests, baskets and bags for storage
  • Chairs/stools and table
  • Floor mats/rugs and ground sheets (e.g. tarps)
  • Plastic boxes or bags (in case of wet weather)

Toiletries

  • Deodorant, powder, etc
  • Soap, shampoo and conditioner
  • Sunscreen
  • Tissues
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste floss and mouthwash
  • Towel/s
  • Sunglasses
  • Hairbrush/comb
  • Insect repellent (there are mosquitoes)

Garb and Accessories

  • Warm and cold weather garb (layers are a good idea – temperatures in the day can easily be mid-20’s and nights can get as low as 0 degrees. Note that the weather is usually humid).
  • Belt/s, pouch and favour/s
  • Cloak, hood, hats, veils, other headwear
  • Jewelry (not expensive) and award tokens
  • Shoes, boots, sandals
  • Tabard, hose and any regalia
  • Tunics, breeches, gowns, tights, etc
  • Underwear, socks, lingerie and chemises
  • Spare lacing
  • Waterproof boots or wellies (it can get wet and muddy at the event site)

Entertainments and Activities

  • Archery, heavy and rapier fighters – don’t forget all your gear, for example:
    • bows and bowstrings, arrows and arrow repair equipment, and armguards
    • gorget, helmet/mask, mesh for heavy/combat-archer war fighters, knee cops, elbow cops, plumes, gambeson/fencing jacket, vambraces, kidney protection, box/groin protection, fighting shoes/boots, duct/edging/fibre tape, spare nuts/bolts, any other equipment repair items.

Note that, due to the humidity, those with metal items/weapons/armour are advised not to leave their equipment out in the open air from dusk to dawn. It is also recommended that you appropriately wax your metal armour/weapons/items to prevent rust.

  • Note: No candles or open flames are to be in the campsite or feasting marquee, for safety purposes.
